Issue #6 of Punk Magazine came out in the summer of 1976, when punk rock was still in pre-school years. Punk signed up a bunch of the rising notables for "The Legend of Nick Detroit." All of issue #6 is devoted this fumetti. It's the story of punk private eye Nick Detroit (Richard Hell), who uncovers a dastardly plot by the Nazi Dykes to take over the world. John Holmstrom, Legs McNeil and Roberta Bayley are primarily responsible for this comical/nihilistic masterpiece. The cast includes Debbie Harry (Blondie), the Talking Heads (in an interesting augury of future bad feelings, Tina Weymouth and Chris Frantz pump bullets into David Byrne), Lenny Kaye (Patti Smith Group), Bob Quine & Ivan Julian (Void Oids), David Johansen (New York Dolls), Robert Gordon, Helen Wheels, and others. If you're interested in punk rock, this is both and an edifying artifact and an entertaining slice of cultural history.
The condition of this item is truly mint. It is in better shape than many of the copies that were sold new at the time. The only thing that has changed over the years is that it has lost the smell of offset ink. In fact, if you open this up and read it, you will be the first one... it's a virgin copy, never having been sold before. We often shipped copies in worse shape than this one (there wasn't enough furniture in the office, so stacks of issues waiting to go out often doubled as chairs or coffee tables... who knows, you may even find Legs's butt print on this one). This copy is part of my personal collection. It has made its way practically untouched by human hands from the Punk office, through various NYC apartments, to my mom's basement in Kansas. Now I'm resurrecting it for sale here.
